Located on the 6th floor of the Ashraf Ali Building, our Coronary Care Unit consists of 5 specialist doctors, 10 nurses and a ward boy. There are 10 beds at the disposal of patients in need of critical cardiac service. Electrocardiography is used for constantly monitoring the patients’ cardiac rhythm, which allows for early intervention with medication, cardioversion or defibrillation, improving the prognosis. As arrhythmias are relatively common in this group, patients with myocardial infarction or unstable angina are routinely admitted to the coronary care unit. For symptoms such as atrial fibrillation, a specific indication is generally necessary. However, in case of other issues, such as heart block, coronary care unit admission is standard.

Located at the 3rd floor of the Ashraf Ali Building, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a specialized facility dedicated to patients who require intensive monitoring, nursing care and complex respiratory support. The ICU is staffed 24 hours a day by 14 board-certified specialists and 31 seasoned critical care nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are committed to providing quality clinical care.
With a ceiling-mounted service unit to house medical equipment and deliver critical power, the beds in our ICU are no longer tethered to the wall. This allows the beds to be rotated and positioned freely to the most optimum environment. The ICU is also positioned in close proximity to the operating theatres so patients can receive emergency treatment as quickly as possible.
The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is for patients who require a higher level of observation, treatment and nursing care than that offered in a general ward but not so much that it requires admission into intensive care. For those moving into the HDU from the intensive care facilities, this move is often seen as a welcome sign of progress as it means that the patient is improving, gradually establishing more normal eating and sleeping patterns, and is a step closer to going home. It is adjacent to the ICU on the same floor, with 8 dedicated beds. The red zone is also located nearby for patients with critical conditions, with 7 dedicated beds.
